Broker banned by FSA

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has banned a mortgage broker following his role in a multi-million pound fraud, for which he was sentenced earlier this year.

Brian Lambert, a former director at Talk Mortgage Services, is prohibited from performing any function in relation to any regulated activity.

In January, Lambert was sentenced to 27 months imprisonment after being convicted the previous September of one count of conspiracy to defraud.

He was a member of a gang plotting to con millions out of mortgage lenders by using the stolen identities of home owners with large, mortgage-free homes.

The group then successfully applied for mortgages on five different homes across the country.

At the time of the case, Teeside Crown Court heard that £1.3m of the £1.75m paid out from the crimes remains missing.

Gang leader Michael Robinson, who called himself Lord Robinson, was jailed for more than six years for his role in the conspiracy.

Eight others, including Lambert, were jailed for lesser terms.
